Great Food But That's All

Great food...but understaffed & no ambiance. Rather have the WHOLE package.

Fun Place, Good Food

Posted by A D. on 7/11/2005

This is a well-known local hang-out, and it always seems to be busy. That's because you get good service, good food, and a fun atmosphere. The restuarant has been around forever, and has quite a history in local lore. (Check the web site for details.) The portions are generous, the menu has many choices -- including traditional favorites that everyone enjoys -- and the servers have been there long enough that you can get to know everyone by name. A family owned restaurant, and a casual dining experience.

I can't imagine that the person who posted a negative review was at the same restaurant. Estrellita's is hands-down the best, most authentic country-style Mexican food on the mid-Peninsula. If El Torito-style, Mexican food for the masses is what you're after, don't come here. If you're interested in complex sauces, flavorful combinations, and enough food for leftovers the next day, this is the place. Try the specials--they change monthly, and they always feature local dishes from the southern states of Mexico. The chicken pibil is outstanding, the chiles en nogada are heavenly, the rose petal chicken is to die for. You half-expect the women from "Like Water for Chocolate" to come out and serve you your dinner. If you go, you'll see why the place has been going strong for over 40 years.

Delicious!

This is a wonderful restaurant--we never leave disappointed. The specials are always different and seasonal, but the menu mainstays are also awesome. Delicious and authentic!

One of the Best

Ignore the negative comments on this page, this is simply one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the Peninsula. I would not give up one of my favorite restaurants for public consumption, but this is a family run restaurant that is a mainstay of the Bay Area. Ask anyone who has been there, who actually knows something about classical Mexican cuisine, and they will tell you that Estrellita is unsurpassed. It's not fancy, and there are no stars or celebrities on the walls, it's just an excellent place to bring your friends and family for a great meal, with a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Family owned and operated for over 40 years, and not by accident. Try it, you'll see (and taste) for yourself.
